The "pinging" occurs sporadically and maybe several times a minute
for approximately 8-12 TOTAL pings. Sorry, but I erased the last
incident so, I
can't give you a definitive answer.
I'm not running through a router, but a motherboard based, hardware
firewall
(Nvidia chipset on an ASUS m/b). However, I am running DSL and
sometimes I
unplug the entire system if I'm leaving for several hours.
Is it possible the pinging is related to powering up the DSL modem ??
Appreciate your responses.
This stuff goes on all the time with these young idiots trying to find
someone to infect or mess up. The best thing to do is just tell the
firewall to quit telling you about them and go on about your business.
There really isn't anything you can do to stop them besides not
connecting when you don't need the Internet.
Or, if your IP never changes, as in my case, you could ask your ISP to change it for you. It may not eliminate the problem though; it'll depend on how the wannabe criminal is processing his list.
Have you notified your ISP to see if they are willing to do anything about it? Never hurts to try.
Pop`
You get on with a fresh, never-used-by-anyone and you'll be getting pinged within an hour.
