You have been given some good but some completely wrong advice about Wordpad and Windows 6.0 files. Get the correct information direct from "the horse's mouth".

These4 KB articles explain why SP2 prevents Wordpad from opening these files, how you can reinstate the ability, and why there is some risk in doing that. If you have Word installed, you could just associate .wri file with Word instead of Wordpad.
