Hi, I just reinstalled XP Home (2002) onto my Dell Inspiron 2600 laptop
yesterday, and for some reason this decreased the monitor resolution to
640x480 pixels (huge icons), and it will not let me adjust this under
"Display Properties" > Settings. I've been onto the Microsoft Support and
trouble shooting page, but their suggestions aren't working (e.g. under
Display Properties > Settings tab > Advanced > Monitor tab, the "Properties"
button is grayed out; and under Adapter tab > Properties > Driver tab there
is no "Update Driver" button, just "VgaSave" information). I've tried to run
the "Drivers and Utilities" CD from Dell, with no luck.
You have to do more than simply install Dell's Resource CD. You then have to run the software it installs, and then follow its instructions for reinstalling all of the necessary device drivers, usually starting with the motherboard's chipset.
