It is a Windows question, though often asked in IE.

The procedure is the same as in Win98.

You set this for each file type, e.g. for .zip
Windows Explorer-Tools-Folder Options-File Types
Find the .zip association (may be WinZip File)
Edit, (or click Advanced on ME or XP) and check the "Confirm open
after download" box

The path to Folder Options may vary according to your operating
system. It may be:
Windows Explorer-View-Folder Options
Windows Explorer-Tools-Folder Options
Start-Settings-Folder Options
Start-Settings-Control Panel-Folder options.

Not sure whether this is a Windows XP question, or maybe an Internet
Explorer question -- if the latter, please let me know.

Every weekday, I download data (just a small .csv or Excel file, using IE6
as browser) from a site that has a Download link. In Win98SE, a click on
the Download link button results in a Save As dialog box that enables me
to
save the file immediately. In WinXP, a click on the Download link button
results in the creation of an Excel file (containing unformatted .csv
data)
that is of little use to me. To get what I want, I have to right click
the
Download link button and select Save Target As...

Can anyone tell me what causes the different behaviour and how I can get
XP
to act like 98 did?
