Thanks, don't bother -- it dawned on me to look it up on the microsoft site.
(Doh!). The answer is XP Home will actually run in 64mb. But not very well.

I'll be installing XP Home on a friend's computer this weekend, but the
512mb memory I ordered won't get there until I'm about to leave. She has
128mb. Will XP install and run in that? I anticipate much swapping to
disk.
