Problems copying files or corrupted files during installation are most often caused by defective or sub-standard hardware; in order of likelihood, either RAM, the hard drive, or the motherboard. On very rare occasions the installation CD is the problem.

Since the most recent change to your system is the hard drive, you should download a diagnostic utility from the hard drive manufacturer's web site, and test the new drive. Unfortunately, even new devices can sometimes fail, right out of the box; particularly if improperly handled in shipping, in the store prior to purchase, or even on the way home from the store.
