Hi Bill,
99% of these are hardware problems. The problem could be related to an
overheating cpu, bad or failing ram, faulty motherboard, or problem with the
power supply. In any case, the system is resetting to protect itself from
the condition that exists, this isn't from within Windows but rather is part
of the hardware fail-safes. You need to take it to a technician for proper
diagnosis.

Hi,
This maybe the wrong group for this question an I apoligize if it is, but
maybe someone her can give me some direction on this problem.
Recently, my computer has suddenly, without any warning, turns off and
restarts. This is confusing and frustrating, since there is a good chance
I
will be running something at the time and, of course we know what happens.
It is confusing because I have tried to get some info on what is causing
the
problem, but nothing is getting reported. I have set the system to "write
event to system log on System Failure", but the closest it comes is
sometimes
there is an entry that somone has turn off the machine by pressing
Ctl-Alt-Del or the power button. When I want to turn the system off, I
have
to press and hold the power button and it does not restart until I press
it
again.
I have also set it to not automatically restart on System Failure with the
hope some sort of error message will come up, but that is not happening.
It these settings in System Failure that does not seem to be working, that
brings me here. Is there something I am missing in XP settings? that can
get
me a clue of what happening? (Does anyone have ideas on what is
happening?)
I realize, the ultimate problem maybe hardware related, but I have tried
running Fix-It Utilities to diagnose the system, but inevetably the system
restarts while it is working and loses whatever it has done.
Thanks
.
