I'm sorry, I don't go inside the tower...(move the card to a different
slot?) not something I'm comfortable doing.. I don't know if it's a PCI
card.. I believe it's integrated with the motherboard.. I still don't have
the driver.. so I'm at a stand still.. thanks for the response though..

Its fairly simple,in device mgr, expand the hardware for sounds,R.click on
youre
sound hardware device,select,uninstall.If its a pci card,shutdown
computer,power
off, move the card to a diffrent slot, restart computer, make sure its
configured in
the BIOS also, unactivate the on board. If its a board based, shut down also
for .30
seconds or so,start computer.Either way,xp reinstalls the device on start
up.

am I supposed to do with all this?.. I promise you I clicked on the
correct one!!! As you can see by the scrollbar, this is only the tip of
the iceberg...this can't be right..:) no wonder it's 18.92 MB, please let

NO! That is not the right file, the file you downloaded is a Beta
BIOS
DOS update, not the SoundMax file.
Go back and this time after getting to the A7V8X-X downloads page,
Click
the Driver tab. The file you want is large ( 18.92 MB ) and it's the
Second one in the list.

hey was I not paying attention.. when did you get the MS-MVP .. I
sure
didn't notice when you changed your signature..:) or have you
always
been
an MVP?
Hi, Rainy. It's a good thing you didn't install those drivers then.
Compaq
and other OEM drivers are (not always but) often customized for their
hardware. I see that Brian has steered you to the web page for the
needed
drivers so good luck with that.
Ummm... I forget exactly but I received my first MVP award about 3-4
years
ago. I lurked in the MS newsgroups for so many years that the time
line
has
become blurry (and my memory is not always perfect). Thanks for
noticing
though ;)
