Yes it does, and in answer to an earlier question, I am searching for data
files.

Thanks for the reply.
In Control Panel -> Folder Options:
"Display the contents of system folders" is selected.
"Show hidden files and folders" is selected.
"Hide extensions for unknown file types" is NOT selected.
In Search Advanced Options:
"Search System Folders" is selected
"Search hidden files and folders" is selected
"Search subfolders" is selected.
I am completely at a loss, especially as I can search attached network
drives OK. If there were going to be a problem, I would have expected it
to
be the other way round.

Are you searching your C drive for system or data files? Does your c
drive
display in Windows Explorer?
To investigate how you are using hard disk space you need to make sure
that
you can see all files. Go to Start, Control Panel, Folder Options, View,
Advanced Settings and verify that the box before "Show hidden files and
folders" is checked and "Hide protected operating system files " is
unchecked. You may need to scroll down to see the second item. You should
also make certain that the box before "Hide extensions for known file
types"
is not checked. Next in Windows Explorer make sure View, Details is
selected
and then select View, Choose Details and check before Name, Type, Total
Size, and Free Space.

When I try to find files on my C: drive, the search always returns
nothing
to
display. I have re-installed srchasst.inf but still no joy. This only
applies
to my C: drive, I can search for files, and strings within files, on
attached
network drives and it returns files that I would expect it to. I have
also
checked that indexing settings are correct. I have also checked the box
to
search files with unknown extensions.
Can anybody offer any other help?
