It may be that you have too many applications starting when windows boots.
Norton's anti virus is one such blockage that delays start up (well most of
Norton's stuff does).
Although it is possible to slim the startup applications down you do have to
consider what you class as 'forever and a day' if your machine is taking up
to 90 - 100 seconds to boot up then that is pretty average. i know mine
takes 130 seconds but there area lot of application loaded at startup. But
then i use hibernate a lot which actually cuts the startup time down because
it has the desktop and everything else saved to a file when i close down
(hibernate). All i usually do is hibernate for 4 or 5 days and then, when i
have more time, close down properly and do a complete reboot. After the
complete reboot i'm back to hibernate again. the reboot is simply to make
sure that everything is working ok, especially if windows has updated and
hasn't asked to be rebooted.
