Power Management

Does anyone have any suggestions regarding power management? Right now, my
monitor, HD and standby are set to "never", and hibernate is not enabled. I
don't know the advantages / disadvantages of alternatives.

... I know the monitor is on because the green led on the monitor blinks. ... I know the computer is on because the led indicator on the front of the computer is lit up and the NUM LOCK indicator on my keyboard is lit up. ...
