The matter of the anomaly of indication of whether the
XP Firewall is ON or OFF, which I reported, has been solved
partially. I quote here a portion of a message I received
from Symantec Tech Support:
"I understand your concerns regarding the issue. Please note that,
Windows Security Center will display that message if you have Norton
Personal Firewall(NPF) or Norton Internet Security (NIS) or some other
third party firewall installed on your computer. It is not indicating
that Windows XP firewall is ON. So please ensure whether you have NIS or
NPF installed on your computer. If they are Windows Security Center will
display that message."
