Delayed opening of "Properties" option

Whenever I right-click>properties on either of my two hard drives or any of
the removable storage devices(floppy, cd-rom, etc.) it takes a long time, at
least 30 seconds for the window to open. It used to respond almost
immediately. I believe it started after installing SP2, but not sure. Any
ideas about why this is happening. I am running WinXP Pro, 512MB ram.
