Hey Ramesh,
thanks for your reply.
I did as you said and after rebooting everything went as it was supposed to!
Thanks a lot.
But why did that happen?
I never changed those registry entries neither did anyone else - who did it
then??? ;)

Hi Markus,
It looks like the Startup and the Common Startup shell folders path are
pointing to the same location. Open Regedit and navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User
Shell Folders
In the right-pane, "Common Startup" data should be set to: (without ")
"%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Start Menu\Programs\Startup" (REG_EXPAND_SZ format)
-and-
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User
Shell Folders
In the right-pane, "Startup" data should be set to:
"%USERPROFILE%\Start Menu\Programs\Startup" (REG_EXPAND_SZ format)
Make necessary changes and reboot.

Hi NG, I recently installed new Hardware to my PC [WindowsXP Prof. (SP1)] which comes with two software components that shall be loaded at startup. These two programs are loaded - but each they are loaded twice! It's a CAPI control program and a W-LAN control program. Using MSCONFIG thse two programs are listed to be loaded from "Startup" and "CommonStartup". Removing them from Startup automatically removes them from CommonStartup - and vice versa! I tried to copy them manually into the "All Users" Startup folder - same behavior. Trying to call the programs using the Run key in the registry fails because some other componentes required seem to be not loaeded yet at the time the registry entry calls the programs. I don't understand why the programs are loaded twice when I use the "All Users" Startup folder. Can anybody help? I'm getting tired of terminating one of the processes each time I logged on to my PC. Thanks in advance Markus
