If you consider downloading windows updates a waste of time then maybe you
shouldn't be running windows. If you want to be prompted for the
installation of those updates then just right click on My Computer and click
properties, under the Automatic Updates tab check the box that says
"download updates automatically and notify me when they are ready to be
installed".
