Here goes attempt #3. Damn MS limits. You should be able to use the program you restored the file with to open it. Also db and info files can be read by a multitude of programs. You could rename the file with the extension it was originally or use notepad or wordpard or even explorer to try and read it. www.filext.com has a list of file extensions and the programs used to open them. Let us know how you do.
