If booting from an external is entirely controlled via the computer BIOS, I
would guess that Phoenix and other companies will eventually field an
upgraded BIOS. If, to do it, new chips/motherboard/other hardware changes
are involved a new computer purchase is indicated. I HOPE just a new BIOS.
