Andrew, you didn't read your mail. You told me that, and
I did just that, and I reported back to you how and why I
could not boot to XP CD.
I get a DOS message:
"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\Windows\System32\config\system
Can attempt to repair file by starting Windows Setup using original
CD-ROM, select 'r' at first screen."
I have an OEM machine and no genuine CD-ROM. My OEM is useless.
And I have two copied CD-ROMs but neither one will start...I tried both
in both CD-ROM drives. It's all there, what XCOPY copied.....but I've
had this result with every clone method that I've tried. You are right,
that XCOPY is the most simple and straightforward clone
method........but it leads me to the same bind that the others do.
