In general I agree to your idea to first exclude hardwareproblems .
I slipstreamed xp sp2 rc1 (german edition) to a XP home sp1 OEM and to a XP prof OEM sp1 . Afterwards I generated testinstallations . A lot of files from the slipstremed XP home couldn't be copied to the HD ( C:) , but the installation did run through . I tried then with the slipstreamed XP prof . And again some files couldn't be copied , not as much as with the XP home . Then I repeated the installationprocess with another computer with differrent hardware . The same failures occurred ! My conclusion : A beta-bug is responsible for the failure of copiing the files . Mister Hobbs , I think , has a problem with a somehow corrupt XP prof copy .
