If they are graphics intensive programs, maybe you don't have a graphics
card with enough memory or perhaps, your system's graphics card is sharing
with main system memory, another possible cause. The fix would be to
purchase a graphics card with more memory or a card that doesn't share with
main system memory and has enough memory of its own.

Without knowing anything about your setup it's difficult to say. You can
check out errors in event log but if the problem is either of the two
mentioned above, the error messages may simply be symptoms. Control
Panel\Administrative Tools\Event Viewer, look for errors that correspond
with when this problem occurs and double click the message as the
information within may contain clues as to the source of the problem.

Since this seems to be related to graphics, have you checked for updated
drivers for your graphics card? You would need to check the manufacturer's
website.

If you are running from a laptop and running from the battery, do you have
the same issue when it is connected to a power source?
