I read other posts and believe this is the problem; things are set to hide
while inactive. To fix:
-Right click a blank area on Taksbar and click on "Lock the Taskbar" to
uncheck it if it is marked.
-Repeat right click, but this time, click on Properties. In the pop-up
dialog box, be sure Taskbar tab is the one active (on top), then click on
"Customize..." (lower-right)
-Next dialog has list of icons in Systray and their status. Click on ones
you want to always show which are listed differently. Note that to right of
a given item is a shaded area around its status with an upside-down
triangle. Click on triangle to get 3 choices.
-Click on "Always Show" for ones you want to.
-OK, Apply and OK your way out to set new arrangement.
-Redo blank area of Taskbar to lock it if desired.
HTH,
