Yo Richard
Greetings from a fellow Canadian.. sorry to hear about all of your woes,
eh.. I have some help for you, but you have to be receptive, so if you have
calmed down a little, here goes..
Left click on the START button and select PROPERTIES.. now click on the
CLASSIC MENU option.. done that?
Now navigate to START - SETTINGS - CONTROL PANEL - PERFORMANCE/APPEARANCE..
what you are going to do now is select the BEST PERFORMANCE setting.. press
ok or whatever you need to finish the task, and the screen will reset
itself.. done that?.. if all has gone well, you are at the level of my 74yr
old mother-in-law who also has an Ontario address but likes to keep it from
prying eyes on the net..
You may think that you have Windows 98 back at this stage, but you haven't
really.. it is still very much XP but in a look that you may find easier to
work with..
At this point, you have two options..
OPTION 1.. Quit the 'primadonna' act, and learn about how a computer works..
ask questions here and at your local computer store, but be nice about it,
and most importantly, be clear when telling others about what is going
wrong.. a short statement to the effect that XP is a bunch of whatever is
not going to help your cause .. stomping your feet just makes you look like
an idiot.. learn how to click on the 'HELP' feature that has been a part of
Windows programs forever.. go buy the book 'Dummies Guide to XP' from
Chapters Book Store.. learn how to type in the search box of Internet
Explorer.. you first foray might be 'google toolbar'.. download it and use
its search function just like you did in Internet Explorer..
OPTION 2.. You are not going to like what I say, but I am going to say it
anyway.. right about now, you are being shown up by a 74 yr old 'silver
surfer' whose only real annoyance is that Windows Messenger doesn't always
connect first time.. she surfs the net, organizes her travel tickets, send
e-mail to all of her friends, organizes her time for her VON committments,
prints posters for the local fetes, plays games, all kinds of things.. You
are obviously not at that stage yet, mainly through your attitude, so here
is the second option.. Rebox the computer, take it back to where you bought
it, and advize the store that you are way more stupid than a 74 yr old
fellow Canadian and you would like your money back, eh..
Mike
PS.. I leave my e-mail address showing so that people can e-mail me.. it is
not recommended because spammers will harvest it every time and for sure, I
take hits from just about every spammer, but if I can help maybe one person
per day, I feel that it is worth it..
