Running Turbo Tax should have nothing o do with corrupt XP (system) files.
I assume that this was a coincidence. In fact, running most application
software should not impact system files.
It is possible that your hard disk is failing, or at least has a few bad
spots. Therefore, before reinstalling XP, try running the recovery console
directly from the XP CDROM and do a CHKDSK C: /R (assuming that XP was
installed on C:, else change the drive letter). If CHKDSK finds a
file-system problem, it may be able to fix it. If it finds a bad spot, the
/R option will lock out that spot. If CHKDSK does not work, stops, gives a
fatal errror, then try deleting the partiton and recreating it. In the
recovery console type HELP to get a list of commands, then a command
followed by /? to get help for that command.
