Well, not that deep. I do Start>>All Programs>>Communications>>FAX
just like it tells me to in your link (I think). I'd expect to click
on FAX and have a full screen choices menu appear (It says so, I think).
Instead, when I just point the pointer at FAX, the word Empty
in parentheses appears at its left. If instead I right click on FAX,
a Desktop window opens up, with one icon in it, reading desktop.ini,
1K, and when I open that, I get the text which I copied to my website
and made available to you. I thought you'd be able to deduce what it meant.

I thought you could see it on my website. I named it faxini.ini to
identify it. Here it is:
[.ShellClassInfo]
LocalizedResourceName=@%systemroot%\system32\fxsres.dll,-118
[LocalizedFileNames]
Send a Fax....lnk=@%systemroot%\system32\fxsres.dll,-110
Fax Cover Page Editor.lnk=@%systemroot%\system32\fxsres.dll,-112
Fax Console.lnk=@%systemroot%\system32\fxsres.dll,-114

Sorry, Sharon, I've tried everything in that article already. As for
'getting the FAX printer installed', I presume you mean some
pseudo FAX printer that the Windows FAX software is going to
tell me how to use. My own Lexmark is online.
Please note that I tried to uninstall so that I could start over,
now that (presumably) all the .dll files somehow became available,
but all Add/Remove would do seems to be to repeat its installation.
