If I said somewhere in here that there was a download for the recovery
console, I think I was mistaken. I don't have such a link and the only
references I have in that regard are to the boot floppies which Michael
Stevens has reported only have limited functionality.

Based on messages you received, it was probably a good idea not to run the
FIXMBR command. As to the errors you are receiving, there are two
references I found at the Symantec/Powerquest site that you might want to
check out and these do seem to be related to Drive Image and not XP so it's
their support you're going to need on this going forward:
