Green square? Do you have Task Manager set to "hide when minimized"? This
setting removes the taskbar button and only shows a small square icon next
to the clock Task Manager. A square that is entirely green indicates high
CPU activity. Double click the square to get the Task Manager screen
displayed.
Once Task Manager is up, go to the Processes page. Click the CPU column to
sort the processes according to CPU usage. Take note of the process name
that's running away with your CPU cycles.
If malware or virus, take the necessary steps required to remove it. If
it's software that you normally use, check for updates. If the problem
continues and the application is allowed to run in the background, disable
the startup feature and run it only when needed.
