Hi there,
not quite sure what u mean by this chipset/MOBO - what is MOBO? Also, there
are 4 updates listed for the BIOS on the HP site, whic one do I choose?
I don't think I have a NVIDIA card, no such thing is listed in the Belarc
advisor. Just a Intel 915GM video driver, which I have loaded, together with
the media card driver, which has got rid of the third missing driver
(unfortunately your suggestion below for the flash media made everything
worse and I had to reinstall the media card driver).
The missing drivers 'Multimedia Video Controller' and 'PCI Device' do not
appear anywhere on the HP site for downloads and drivers for my machine, and
I do not know if they are part of some other driver?
As for the red cross messages, there are not many, and none that appear to
have anything to do with the drivers nor the freexing (or hanging) of the
machine. Here are two from the application list
date 11/11/2007 source SQLAgent$INGAUSTRALIA
category alert engine type error event id 318
description Unable to read local eventlog (reason: The data area passed to a
system call is too small).
For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
date 09/11/2007 source application hang
cateory (101) type error
decsription Hanging application explorer.exe, version 6.0.2900.3156, hang
module hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
And one from the system list
date 09/11/2007 source SCardSvr
category None type Error
Description
WDM Reader driver initialization cannot open reader device: The system
cannot find the path specified.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
I found that my automatic MS update had not been working so have spent all
day loading these 63 updates, with of course multiple hangs on restarts and
hunting for the missing driver, so apologies for not replying sooner.
Thanks for your help in advance.

Hi,
Please, try to install the driver for the chipset/MOBO from the Mobo
manufacturer website.
Do you have NVIDIA Video card?.
Go here and select your Laptop serial number to get the latest drivers for
it and install it.

If the above didn't help, just send the error messages with Red (X) in the
event viewer, please one from each kind, meaning if the error repeated we
don't need it repeated again as one will be sufficient for troubleshooting.

Nass,
Thanks for your reply.
No, the laptop does not get hot - I frequently sit with it for hours on my
lap, and also hdtune did not suggest it was overheating.
As for the event viewer, there is over 500kb in both the application and
systems folders of msgs - u can't surely want me to paste all of these here?
There are lots of different types as well, so I can't even guess which one u
might find helpful
In Devic e manager, there are currently 3 devices showing with yellow marksa
- the Multimedia Video Controller, the PCI Device, and a new one, the Texas
Instruments PCIxx21 Integrated Flash Media Controller. This last is normally
okay, but as I said earlier, I have just reinstalled XP, so this may be
missing from the CD. As for updates, I have never myself tried to find
updates to these (I don't even know where to start), and normally get the
automatice MS updates once a week.

Hi,
I have an HP Compaq nx6120, running XP SP2.
Every time (just about) I try to boot the computer, it freezes on the log on
to windows page (sometimes it gives up earlier than this). Typically, if I
turn the laptop off, and leave it for several hours, it will work, but not
always. I have tried installing hdtune and running itm it reports all okay.
I have also tried reinstalling XP twice, to no avail. Now even IE6 has
managed to corrupt itself, so I attempted to reinstall XP for a third time.
This has halted 6 times now, and attempts to restart the computer from cold
are not succeeding.
I should also mention that, even when it is running, the laptop seems to be
missing two drivers, for a Multimedia Video Controller and a PCI bus,
although I am not using either of these (to my knowledge, as everything works
ok when I can get the thing to start).
HELP!!!!!!!!! (I am now using the wife's laptop, which is less than popular,
as u can imagine)
Hi,
Does your Laptop got overheated or very hot?.
Do you get the updates for your Drive4s from their vendors websites and for
the exact Hardware Specs?.
Look in the Event Viewer for Any Error Messages that can shed
some
light on the causer and post it back in your next Post.
On how to access the Event Viewer do the following:
- Open a run command and type in:
eventvwr click [OK]
There you will see three Options/Folders:
Application
System
Security
By clicking on each and look in the Right Pane/Window you will see a report
Log Double click on the error Message (X) to get more info and you can copy
and paste in your next post.
And on your Device Manger for any malfunctioning Devices, by right click My
Computer and select properties then click on Hardware Tab >> Click on Device
Manager Button >> Click on the [+] beside each device to Expand its tree and
see if there is Yellow Mark or Red (X).

You receive a "System Has Recovered from a Serious Error"
