I would have to say this is very unlikely, mgf's don't just set a drive in
the bay, they are secured in one way or another to prevent this problem.

Instead of a cable, most laptops have a "receptacle" where the hard drive
is inserted. The clearance in the drive bay area is enough where a drive
could "dislodge." If the drive is not connected completely the system
cannot boot.
