When my pc is switched on, Windows XP will try to launch and it comes to this
screen:
Sorry for the inconvenience, Windows did not start successfully...........
1. Safe Mode
2. Safe Mode with Networking
3. Safe Mode with command prompt
4. Last known configuration which worked
5. Launch windows normally.
Selecting anyone of the options will make the pc reboot back to this screen
again.
I manage to boot from a: and diskpart shows:
c: partition1 (unknown)29996 mb
d: partition2 (data)[ntfs] 8205mb (8141mb free)
dir c: returns "an error occured during dir enumeration"
dir d: shows "recycler", "sysvol", "utilities" but all 0 bytes!

Whats the problem? What's in D:partition2 ?
What should I do? Should I try a repair or install a new copy of Windows XP
to the c: partition1 ?

If I re-install a new Windows XP in C:partition1, will I loose the data in
D:partition2 ? Is there a way for me to access the data in D:partition2 so
that I can copy it to another place?

Thanks for any help from anyone of you out there in cyberspace.

There is no data in D: - it is an almost empty partition (8,205 mb
total size of which 8,141 mb are free/unused).

Boot again from a: and when it stops at the command prompt enter the
following command:

CHKDSK C: /R

and see if that fixes the data structure problems with your boot drive
(C:)

Good luck
