Re: Wrong Processor Identified

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

I know for a fact that I have an Intel Pentium M 2.13 Ghz processor, but
Windows detects it as a 1.60 Ghz processor. It clearly says 2.13Ghz in my
BIOS but in the WinXP device manager it says Intel(R) Pentium(R) M 1.60Ghz.
I've tried uninstalling the device, but after the computer restarts I see
1.60 again? How do I make my windows detect the correct processor speed?

Check your BIOS setup settings for processor base speed and
multiplier.

Some OEMs seem to like shipping out their computers with the BIOS set
to "underclock" the CPU.

In your case I suspect that your BIOS is set to 100 mhz bus speed with
a multiplier of 16. If this is correct then changing the bus speed
to 133 mhz and leaving the multiplier at 16 would give you 2.13 ghz.

WARNING!!!!!!!!
Make doubly and triply certain that your new settings are all within
the safe operating limits for your motherboard, CPU, RAM, etc. before
making any actual changes to the BIOS setup for these items. Otherwise
you could easily "fry" your computer.

Good luck
