Cheers Sharon,
I was using directions from Apple Support and it didn't give Directions
for Both so I guess it was for XP Pro only. The problem was originally an
error when re-installing the latest update for iTunes 6.0.3 I think which
didn't work giving the 1603 error right at the end of installation. I tried
everything Apple gave to me and noticed this and wasn't sure that this was
the problem. Since then I have installed the previous version of iTunes with
no problem everything worked fine! I am still running without Norton as this
was one of the steps suggested. what concerns me is the "I know best"
approach I have taken and am leaning towards a full re-install because a lot
of little thing are bugging me, such as programmes dropping out for no reason
but was hoping it would be easier than that!!

Cheers

Hi, John.

Sorry to hear that Apple didn't take XP Home into consideration for you. If
you have XP's help and support set up to search the Knowledge Base when
online, try typing in "error 1603." You'll get quite a lengthy list of
articles to peruse. Perhaps one of them will have some XP Home directions.

The error is an Installshield error. Installshield is licensed from a third
party and used to create installers for Windows programs. You can get some
hits from the MS Knowledge Base. Installshield also maintains an online
help area that sometimes pans out with info useful to end users. I don't
have an URL for this but a search on google should be fruitful.

I understand that you don't need these directions any longer to resolve the
iTune trouble so maybe this is a moot issue. At least, the idea of
searching with Help & Support is something that you could use in the
future.

I'm not sure I know what you mean by your "I know best" approach but my
guess is that it is not out of line. Instead, I feel that you got caught
with the short end of the stick between a software vendor and their
implementation of a third party product.

If you decide to go ahead and reinstall everything (hopefully for those
other reasons that you mentioned and not this issue), I wish you good luck
with the project.
