Word files saved to CD are read only; I can't save any changes.

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

I'm using Windows XP, version 5.1 I am trying to save Word files from my hard
drive to a CD. They seem to save okay, but when I open the files again (from
the CD) and try to save changes, I get a message that the file is read-only.
When I check the security settings for the original file on my hard drive,
"recommend read-only" is not selected.
