Cannot install old software

I recently bought a Sony VAIO PCV-RS630G computer and installed my XP Pro
software. I cannot get some CD programs to install, even when I try "adding
and removing programs." Absolutely nothing happens. These programs
installed and worked when I used the same XP software on my previous computer.
