Re: Unable to active TS

Tech-Archive recommends: Speed Up your PC by fixing your registry

Thanks for the advise,

Ok, now I had a case with different the following scenario:
I have two servers name server01 for the first one and server02 for the
second one and both of them installed with windows server 2003.
The server01 is DC server(window.com).The server02 is installed and
configured with CITRIX ACCESS Suite 4.0,terminal server and act as
application server which contains of MS Office,Sql,etc. The server02 is also
joining or become a domain member of server01(server02.window.com).
My question is how many CAL's and TS CAL are required if suppose there were
20 users will be accessing the server02 and which type of CAL's and TS CAL's
most suitable for my company
Thanks and looking forward to have your reply soon

Cheers.

This is by design.
The W2K TS Licensing Service *must* run on a Domain Controller.
Only exception is when the server is a standalone server in a
workgroup, or a member of a NT4 domain.

If you check the EventLog on the server, you will see the following
Events:

Event ID 29
Terminal Services Licensing can only be run on Domain Controllers
or Server in a Workgroup. See Terminal Server Licensing help topic
for more information.

Event ID 7024
The Terminal Services Licensing service terminated with service-
specific error 29.

Is documented here:
277917 - Terminal Server Licensing Service Failure
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=277917

You will have to uninstall the TS Licensing service from the W2K
server, install the TS Licensing Service on your 2003 DC. If you
don't have any purchased licenses, that's all you have to do.
If you have down-level clients, which need a purchased TS CAL,
you'll have to phone the Clearinghouse to get your licenses re-
issued for installation on the new LS.

Hi guys,

I got the problem with TS activation for the following scenario.
Here's the problem:
I have two servers ,the first one (Name Server) installed with
windows server 2003 Enterprise Edition R2 and acting as
DC(server.win2003.com) and the other one (name win2000)
installed with windows server 2000 advance edition (SP3)
(WORKGROUP) and act as terminal server, thus it had terminal
service licensing ( has not been activated). I joined the second
one into the first one domain so it became win2000.win2003.com.
When I tried to activate the terminal service licensing on the
second server, the activate server option is disabled (grey out)
or not allow me to do so..
can Anyone help ? advise ? it would be greatly appreciated for
any help and thank you for all of you in advance
Cheers,

Thomas
