Vera, by default Windows 2000 client/XP does not require license to connect
to Citrix Server. My question is if, I install TS CALS for CE devices to
connect will that affect the Windows 2000/XP clients?

I thought you had a problem with Windows CE devices?

Thanks Vera. Installing this will not affect the Windows 2000/XP
client that currently does not require CAL.

The previous reply was actually made by Patrick. Sorry if I
confused you by jumping in and making this a "conference"

:-)
Note that a Windows 2000 Terminal Server will *not* recognize
Per User TS CALs, so don't buy those. Assuming that your TS
Licensing Server also runs on W2K, you will not be able to
install them as Per User either. So the discussion about Per
User versus Per Device does not apply to your situation.
You will have to install Per Device TS CALs, which will be
issued to any device which needs one, on a first-come basis.
Note that neither Per User nor Per Device TS CALs are
concurrent. You need one for every device (or user, if running
2003) who connects. With 7 tablet PCs, you'll need 7 TS CALs.

Thanks once again for your response Vera, you are
enlightening me. Let me see if I understood what you are
saying. Every user that login gets a CAL tied to his
username. In other words if users A, B, C, D and E were
previosly given CAL user F will be granted a temporary
license. Is this correct?
Thanks,

I don't think 2000 recognises Per-User TSCALs, but in any
case, Per-User TSCALs are not issued, tracked or in any way
associated with a device. The TS, when in per user mode,
just checks for an activated TSLS, with installed per-user
TSCALs. If this is found, the logon is successful. If one
is found, but doesn't have per-user TSCALs, a TEMP License
is issued to the client, which is good for 30 days.

Thanks for your response Vera. Now, for the TS License
there are two kinds, Per Device or Per User. Which one
will apply in my case if I have 7 Tablet PC with only 2 or
3 concurrent connections to our Citrix Server? If I
purchase 5 Per User CAL will I have issue with the other
two Tables?

The hotfix *alone* will certainly not solve your
problem!
You must first buy and install TS CALs for your CE thin
clients. And then *maybe* you need a hotfix wo make it
all work.
There are a couple of known problems with issueing
permanent licenses to thin client, which previously have
been issued a temporary license which now has expired
(as is the case with your thin clients).
Patrick was anticipating such a problem, that's why he
already included a link to a hotfix. But you must have
the TS CALs to start with!

Thanks for the reply Patrick. The KB article that
applies in my case is KB827355, it says to apply the
hotfix but not to purchase the TS License. That is
why I was a little bit confuse whether I need to buy
the TS CAL or just apply the hotfix. I will apply the
hotfix I will let yiou know if it will fix the
problem.

The client is using Citrix ICA to connect. I get
event id 1004, terminal server cannot issue a
client license. Windows 2000 professional clients
connects without any problem.
