Upgrading a domain with a . (period) in the NETBIOS name

Good Evening,

This is actually a question about a 2003 upgrade, but I couldnt find a 2003
Upgrade newsgroup.

I am in the process of upgrading a client's NT 4.0 domain to Windows 2003
ADS, and I've run into a situation I have not previously encountered. The
client's NETBIOS domain name has a . (period) in the middle of the name,
let's call it network.com for sake of discussion.

This client is also looking at upgrading Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003. Are
there any isues with the . in the name? I typically suggest non-standard
top-level domains (such as .ADS, .CORP, etc), and aside for the confusion
factor of hacing NETWORK.COM as the NETBIOS name and network.ads as the DNS
name, are there any potential issues to worry about?

Thanks!

Tony
