Server running Windows 2000 Server. Three clients running Windows XP Pro.
Server and three clients all connect to a combined router/ADSL modem/wireless
access point. IP address of server is 172.16.1.251, subnet 255.255.0.0,
gateway 172.16.0.1 and DNS 172.16.0.1. DHCP not installed on server. All
three clients obtain IP address and DNS server address automatically. Laptop
which used to have Windows 98 connected successfully but hard drive failed
and subsequently replaced. OS on laptop upgraded to Windows XP now. When you
run network ID wizard on laptop it completes successfully and reboots but
when you try and logon to network you get error "system cannot log you on
because domain x not available". I have also seen the error "access denied
when joining domain". Why can I not connect with laptop? I have tried using
the IP 172.16.1.78, subnet 255.255.0.0 and DNS 172.16.0.1 but no success.
Help!
