1.) Usually means Ntdetect.com file is missing or damaged. Recreate the
setup disks.
2.) You can set to boot order in cmos setup. After doing so you'll need to
watch, at POST, for the keystroke to confirm boot from CD-Rom.

| Greetings,
| After upgrading to Win2000 I received this error:
| STOP: c0000218 {registry file failure} The registry cannot load the
| hive\SystemRoot\System32\Config\SOFTWARE or its log or alternate. It
| is corrupt, absent, or not writable. Beginning dump of physical memory
| Dumping physical memory to disk: __%
| So I followed some instructions that recommended that I use the Win2000
| setup boot disks.
| Using the first Win 2000 boot disk I get the following error:
| Setup is inspecting your computer's hardware configuration.
| Disk I/O error: Status = 0000100B
| NTDETECT failed
| Which piece of hardware is 0000100B?
| Other instructions recommend starting the PC with the Win200 CD. This
| does not work. I am able to go to the setup menu by pressing F8 during
| startup however none of the selections change any thing.
| Any suggestions? Anyone?
| Thanks,
