Thats even worse. WinME inherits whatever problems Win98 had and W2K tried
to update an OS that it knows nothing about. The result is a double-damaged
installation that has no hope in hell to achieve stability.

If i were in your situation, i'ld start with a backing up of any documents
you would rather not loose via DOS. That's assuming you have a boot-diskette
available and that you didn't convert the file system to NTFS.

Then identify the components on your system. Example: motherboard make an
model. That will give you a chance to check the manufacturer's site for W2K
compatibility procedures (like update the bios to achieve ACPI
compatibility). Trust me, its worth the effort.

A compatibility check is a requirement, not an option, when performing
either an upgrade or a clean install, regardless of the operating system
targetted. Be it Win98, ME, W2K or XP. A properly prepared system is the
difference between cussing and success.

Always take a moment to read upgrade or installation procedures, not doing
so is doing it the hard way. Fortunately, tools like "winnt32
/checkupgradeonly" and the HCL list are available right there on your W2K CD
to help you.

If your system can't boot from a CD-Rom, you can always use a DOS boot disk
with CD drivers and execute W2K installation by running "winnt.exe found in
your W2K CD's I386 directory. www.bootdisk.com. Beats having to create the
W2K diskettes.

The people in this newsgroup will and can give you all and any help you
need. So feel free to ask any question you need answers too. Open a new
thread to start a step by step approach with one subject at a time.
