I get a box at start up that says my Registry is full and cannot

number and how to do it. When I do change the number, I get a
pop up that states I cannot do this because of HD space. There
is over a gig of space free and the max on the Reg. is set to
1536Kbs.

What OS are you running? W2K lists Registry Size in MB...
Check again and report the Current Registry Size and the Maximum
registry size as currently displayed. Do not increase the size
more that 10% at first as that may "fit" the available free space.

Free up more space and try again? 1 GB is almost nothing these
days...and may be fragmented or reserved for the system already.

I have run Reg Cleaner also.

That may be a mistake. Most registry "cleaners" are potentially
hazardous especially if used by by those who
"I am not familar with working on the Registry"
and also when no Full Registry Backup has been made in advance.
ERUNT is likely a good solution for you here in making regular Full
Registry Backups (not "exports" which are useless for backup
purposes)

What is this all about and how do I fix whatever it is?

See other post but deal with it ASAP as the system may not be
stable otherwise.

Also, after success, monitor the current size of the registry
periodically to confirm that is not continuing to grow in size with
no apparent reason.

Posting specific (copy and past here) Event Log Entries with
details may be useful when diagnosing problems that generate
Events.
