Hi Nick,
   Have you checked the encryption settings of your VPN connection?
If you do not require you need not have encryption.

Rightclick connectoid --> Properties --> Security tab
If you are using typical settings, uncheck the 'Require data encryption'
box.
If you use advanced settings, check for the encryption type.

Also, check the IPSEC services(policyagent) is started on both sides(client
and server).
