Alan,
We also tested on Server 2003 and it did not work with a user = 10
characters. It did work with a user = 9 characters or less. Same results as
W2K.
Again, the remote print is coming from an AS/400, which has a limit of 10
characters for user profile. What platform did your test come from?
Nonetheless, we still have the issue and would appreciate any additional help.
Thanks.

Can you target an XP machine to see if a newer LPD Service handles user
names with 10 or more characters.
I'll forward this post to the network team who handles TCP services.

Alan,
Thanks for the reply.
I did what you specified, and it did not fix the issue.
After adding the new Registry entry, the printer automatically changed to
the PROXY port. Then when trying to print, received the following error:
Proxy Remote Printing
No remote control session is active. Remote printing is not enabled
unless
a remote control session is active. The print job is cancelled.
I removed the new Registry entry, changed the printer port back to a
standard TCP/IP port, and printing resumed.
Please refer back to the original issue. I cannot print remotely to
Windows
2000 from IBM AS/400 when the spool file on the AS/400 has a user profile
(AS/400 user id) equal to 10 characters. I am able to print when the
user
profile is 9 characters or less. I discussed with IBM and we believe the
issue is on Windows, because of the LPDSVC Error ID: 4005 being logged in
the
Event Log.
Would appreciate additional assistance with this.
Thanks,
Rob

Configure the printer for passthru and see if that corrects the issue.

I have a Win 2000 system, and I am receiving a warning in the Event
Log.
The
warning specifics are as follows:
Source: LPDSVC Event ID: 4005 Description: Request for unsupported
format received from SVANZEELAN:job may not print correctly.
I am trying to send a print report (spool file) from an IBM AS/400 to
a
remote print queue on Windows. It works when the user profile (user
id)
on
the AS/400 is 9 characters in length or less. If the user profile =
10
characters, then it does not work and I receive the warning message in
the
Event log. The user in the example is SVANZEELAN (10 characters). I
have
discussed the issue with IBM and they have said it is an issue in
Windows.
