Subject: Printing number of copies doesn't work on xp pro
I have XP pro and a Brother MFC 3420C Printer/scanner/fax/copier.
Everything worked fine up until I tried to print today.
If I'm in Word, or anything on this system, when I go to File > Print
and put in any number of copies for it to print, it only prints one copy.
This happens in Word as well as my Browser (mozilla) so I know it's not
spacific to a certain program.
I also got the latest drivers for my printer and installed them as well
as going to windows update and installed any new updates.
This /has/ to be somthing with the printing system in windows that
somehow got messed up.
Also, if I'm in Word and just hit the print icon on the toolbar a number
of times it will add the number of copies to the print job icon in the
taskbar, and it will print multiple copies. But when I choose the
number of copies from the print dialog box it just shows one document in
the taskbar print icon.
Any ideas where to look to fix this?

There are in-box drivers for the Brother MFC-3900 that may work for your
3420. On the Advanced tab of the printer properties, you can install a "New
driver" and select to use it instead. In-box drivers are generally VERY
stable, and are good to test with when troubleshooting printing problems.
Check the
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors"
registry key for third-party monitors.
Remove any non-default monitors (NOTE: Do not remove the HP Master Monitor
if it exists, make sure it is upgraded to version 4.2)
The default port monitors are:
- AppleTalk Printing Devices (When Services for Macintosh is installed)
- BJ Language Monitor
- Local Port
- PJL Language Monitor
- Standard TCP/IP Port
- USB Monitor
- Windows NT Fax Monitor (when applicable)
As another troubleshooting step, you might want to try setting the Printer
Driver Spool Settings to "Print Directly to Printer"
1. Right-click the printer, and then click Properties.
2. Click the Advanced tab
3. Click to select "Print Directly to Printer"
I hope that some of this helps.
