I recently had a problem with my TCP/IP and had to
reconfigure it from scratch, after having had to remove
some keys in the registry.
Everything works fine since: internet connection okay,
connection to other pc in wireless lan okay.
But 1 thing doesn't work: install the printer that's on
the other machine.
The other machine is running NT4 and shares the printer
(HP Laserjet 5L) -- nothing changed on that machine, mind -
- and my machine is running Win2K. I open the Printers
folder, add a printer and select the shared printer from
the 'Shared printers' dialog. But when I click on the
shared printer, I immediately see the message "Error: The
printer name is invalid". This is not true: its name
is 'hp' and the computer name is 'nico'.
I have tried many things: unshared the printer and
reshared it. Removed all printers on my machine and
installed the most recent HP5L driver on my machine,
installed a local HP 5L printer and added a local port
that points to \\nico\hp... Nothing works. Although the
last method gives me feedback from the distant machine
(the print spooler program notifies me of the print jobs I
send), no page is printed.
Any clues?
Tnx,
