Pagefile.sys missing after HD clone

I recently was asked to fix a problem stemming from a drive clone that
ommitted Pagefile.sys on the cloned drive. Without Pagefile.sys the
system will not boot (naturally) nor take one to a point where the file
can be created.

The clone was performed using Ghost 2003 (always very bullet proof for
me) and all other files/directories appear to be intact. I've
personally never seen this happen before, so I'm a bit at a loss as to
how a Pagefile.sys can be created/recognized from scratch.

I tried connecting the old drive as a Win98SE system slave, copying
Pagefile.sys to a temp directory, then connecting the new drive as the
slave and copying Pagefile.sys to the root, but on boot, Win-2K still
does not recognize the file.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.
