No...I don't have dial-up...we have Verizon DSL. There is only one other
machine that uses the same hookup, and although they also have W2K, it does
not have the problem. I just newly installed the W2K a few days ago on an
added hard drive, and it does seem to happen mostly with my the newsreader,
Outlook Express. But, it does happen at times with the Internet as well.
Sometimes, when I go to open the Internet I get the 'Page cannot be
displayed' error. Generally, this is when the system has been idle for a
couple of hours or more.
However, just before I answering your reply, I was composing a rather long
e-mail, and when I went to check this newsgroup, I got the error, as well as
for the others I tried. Thus, I had to restart the machine.
This happens on and off during the day, depending on how long the machine
sits idle. I never leave it active with the Internet, I always close IE when
I'm not using it for a specific reason.
I have had problems trying to update some of my programs, such as SpyBot, Ad
and such, when they say they can't connect. But, as soon as I restart the
machine, they can connect with no problem.
I had Wine for several years, but, I did not experience this problem. I
thought perhaps that, not being familiar at all yet with the WOK, there was
some adjustment I needed to make to prevent this from happening.
Thank you very much for your time and assistance, I truly do appreciate it.
:-)
Jan :)
