The idea of spybot is a good idea and should be run no
matter what the problem is. Another one might be to turn
off active desktop. That will get rid of your message. You
could also try removing the bad background. The
backgrounds are stored in the WINNT dir. Remove the one
that is giving your problems, set your background to
something else, reboot if needed.
