Get rid of the "two nic" stuff and forget it.
Buy a Hub or Switch,...they are cheap.
Plug everything into the it,...including the ADSL device.

The DLINK G604T is actually a router which I think already gives me NAT
and firewall.
Am I currently having less security protection than pluging the second
pc directly into the router DLINK G604T?
