Re: Demote or uninstall AD

Richard, i just found out that my replicated DC also have 5 roles
assigned. Does it mean it is also a schema master ? Doesnt there is
only 1 schema master in 1 domain wide forest ?

You need to start reading the articles I sent you earlier, and the
articles
linked to them. They describe how to start cleaning up the mess. The
only
reason I brought up DCPROMO is because you said, or seemed to say, that
you
had brought up a second domain controller with the same name as the
first,
failed, domain controller.

Richard , can demote a DC that not around anymore ?

Ooookay. The first thing to do is demote that crashed and recovered
domain
controller - get it out of the picture until you fix the other things
that
are broke. Run DCPROMO on it and make it a member server, then
disjoin
it
from the domain. Then shut it off.

Next, have you looked at the articles I sent you earlier? Until you
start
cleaning up the mess and getting the domain stabilized you're only
going
to
make matters worse. If there is one functioning domain controller
then
you
simply DO NOT want to remove Active Directory from it, not for any
reason.
You want to repair the damage that's been done, then re-add new domain
controllers into a stable environment.

Why do you want to uninstall and reinstall AD if this is the last
domain
controller? You do realize that this act will destroy your domain,
right?

Let's fix what's broke first, though. Did you properly demote the
last
domain controller before it was "already nomore"? If not you
likely
have
some damage that needs fixing:

Recovering "lost" FSMO roles:

http://support.microsoft.com/?id=255504

Removing domain controllers that no longer exist:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;216498

Better start reviewing event logs and finding out what other damage
needs
to
be fixed, too.
