Can't map ftp ip as network drive

I've got access to an ftp site that needs to be mapped as a local
drive. I can setup the ftp location as a new Network Place, but when I
try to map it according to the provided format, I get the error
"Network path could not be found". I have also tried to map the ftp's
Network Location I created, but do not get an "okay" button to un-grey.
I have tried mapping network drive "\\70.88.nnn.nn",
"ftp://name@xxxxxxxxxxxx" and "ftp://70.88.nnn.nn"
Also, the location is accessible as a network place and the ip address
is a trusted zone in my firewall.
Please advise. Thanks- fogman
.
